Client: Arcas Building Solutions

Location: Shotley Bridge Community Hospital

Completion Date: Summer 2025

Introduction: In the summer of 2025, Springs Roofing was commissioned by Arcas Building Solutions to carry out a full roof refurbishment at Shotley Bridge Community Hospital. The project involved stripping the existing roofing system and installing a high-performance waterproofing solution in accordance with Alumasc specifications. Our team brought precision, expertise, and attention to detail to ensure the hospital’s roof was both durable and compliant with industry standards.

CHALLENGE:

project
overview:

Complex removal work: The project required stripping the existing roof membrane and removing the concrete screed using breakers – a time-consuming and labor-intensive process.

Maintaining structural integrity: Care was needed when preparing the deck to avoid damage to the existing structure while applying the primer.

Achieving precise roof falls: Ensuring the new roof had the correct slope for drainage was critical to meet Alumasc’s standards and guarantee long-term waterproofing performance.

SOLUTION:

overview:

Our team carefully removed the old roof membrane and concrete screed, using specialist breakers to ensure efficiency and safety.

We prepared the deck with primer before installing a new vapour control layer, protecting the building from moisture penetration.

Tapered insulation was applied to create the correct falls, followed by underlay and a new cap sheet, completing the waterproofing system in line with Alumasc specifications.

Close collaboration with Arcas Building Solutions ensured all phases were completed on schedule and to the client’s high standards.
